A group of 29 Menifee and Perris Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) members recently participated in a joint meeting, hearing presentations and working on a common goal. The group will create an initiative, project or event that each committee will bring to its perspective community by the end of the year.
Advisors from Menifee and Perris presented tips and techniques about professionalism, fundraising, networking, marketing and brainstorming for consideration when developing the group projects. The youth-led Love4Life organization shared information about anti-bullying, a topic the group is considering for their project.
"This group of teens spent an educational, thought provoking afternoon together, discussing current issues in their communities and ideas about how to facilitate awareness and change," said Menifee Community Services Director Robert Lennox. "In addition to practicing their communications skills, they will each leave with new skills and ideas from the day's discussions."
The group will meet again in March to choose an initiative to present to their communities. Topics under discussion include anti-bullying, teen dating violence awareness or a community care day to assist at a hospital or senior home.
