Menifee remembers Purple Heart Veterans on Memorial Day

Menifee, a newly designated Purple Heart City, is hosting a Memorial Day remembrance event to honor the men and women of the United States Armed forces who have died in military service to our country.The ceremony is scheduled for Mon., May 26 at 12 noon, at the Veterans Memorial in Wheatfield Park at the corner of La Piedra and Menifee roads. Military families along with the entire Menifee community are invited.The Memorial Day ceremony includes the posting of colors by the Paloma Valley High School NJROTC Color Guard and participation from the local chapters of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1956 and Oasis Veterans Club. The Master of Ceremony is Christopher Proctor, the new commander of the VFW chapter 1956, and the keynote speaker is Ed Yarbrough from the Oasis Veterans Club. The ceremony concludes with the distribution of flags for attendees to set around the Veterans Memorial.

Menifee was recently named a Purple Heart City. This designation is given to cities with a strong commitment to veterans and a notable number of residents who have been awarded a Purple Heart. The Purple Heart is a military honor given to those who are wounded or killed in action.
