The Menifee Police Department wishes residents a safe and relaxing holiday season.
This short list of safety tips is meant to remind residents to drive safely and reduce the risk of crime during the holidays.
· Slow down, drive safely and do not use cell phones while driving.
· Obey all traffic laws. Do not block intersections or run red lights. Increased traffic patrol will be ticketing for these offenses.
· Be aware of pedestrians as many people are out and about this time of year.
· There's also less daylight which means more nighttime driving is required and pedestrians are less visible. Drive slowly through parking lots and check twice before backing out of parking spaces.
· Park in well lit areas and be aware of your surroundings.
· Put packages in your trunk where they are not visible through car windows.
· Prevent credit card fraud and identity theft. Do not give any personal information to unknown or unsolicited sales people. Telephone sales scams increase during the holiday season.
· If you plan to donate money this season, be sure you donate to legitimate organizations.
· Set a timer to turn lights on inside and outside your home if you will be traveling this holiday season. Ask a neighbor to keep an eye on your home and to pick up newspapers and any flyers delivered to your house.
The Police Department has set up patrols in crowded shopping areas for additional safety during the holiday season. However, everyone must be aware and do his/her part to prevent crime.
