For a long time Menifee Authority has not addressed the social problem of homeless people in Menifee. The City of Menifee created the Menifee Homeless Task Force to address this significant social issue, which is not news in this city. The first Homeless Task Force meeting kicked off on March 29, 2017 at 8:30 am at Kay Ceniceros Senior Center.
I am impressed with the progress of Menifee authority. Despite the high-quality life in Menifee that residents enjoy, it is not uncommon to see the homeless.
The kickoff agenda of the first task force meeting was to discuss Menifee strategy on the homeless. During this pioneer meeting, the Homeless Menifee Task Force described the homeless population as people who comprise the youth, veterans, families, ex-criminals and immigrants among others.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services definition of the Homeless was adopted at this meeting. Lisa Sobek, Menifee Councilwoman 3rd District was present in the Pioneer Homeless Task Force meeting. Commenting on the new progress, she said: "Our Menifee Family is an awesome community with amazing people doing so much good."
Who are the Stakeholders Who can help the Homeless?
The Menifee Homeless Task Force identifies everyone as stakeholder who can assist in solving the homeless problem. The government authority tops the list where the city, the county, the legal justice, law enforcement department have a great obligation to solving this important social issue.
Other important stakeholders include faith based organization, the non-profit organization, businesses, educational institutions and the public. During the presentation, members agreed that everybody comprising the society is part of finding the solution the long time problem of homeless.
Residents have applauded this progress in the community and termed it as proactive engagements toward Forward Growth. Donna LH in Social Media comments says: “It was such an honor to be part of such a proactive community. Menifee has the right attitude! Positive Forward Growth!” More other Menifee residents have noted that there were more people in Menifee Task Force meeting as compared to the number of homeless suggesting the good spirit that Menifee residents are willing to use to help the homeless.
Menifee Task Force established ways so that stakeholders can help. There are many ways to help the homeless. Some of them include providing social services, temporary housing, educating the public, creating support groups, job training, mental and physical health treatment, and substance abuse assistance are some of the most efficient ways stakeholders can invest in to help solve the problem of homeless in Menifee.
There may be challenges that may exist when trying to solve the homeless. However, the feature of Menifee Homeless Task Force includes developing a strategic plan through a mission statement, action plan, and goals/objectives.
The solving the homeless challenges in Menifee is just beginning. We hope that good faith on this program will be achieved soon so as to maintain the high quality of life that Menifee promises.
