Each year the GFWC Menifee/Sun City Women's Club does many projects, a few projects coming up they could use support from others in the community.
Project 1...Their Scholarship project, they are holding an an opportunity drawing of a beautiful inlaid gold necklace with beads and earrings set made by Marjorie Ball who has been designing necklaces for years. Here is a photo of the necklace
The opportunity drawing tickets ate $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00 contact Dale Iverson at 301-5182 to purchase your lucky ticket. The drawing will take place on March 21st at the Clubs Reciprocity Tea; winner does not need to be present to win.
Project 2...FREE The Girls project: Do you have gently used bras that you are not using anymore? If so we would like you to donate them to our Club, we are working on a project with other clubs across the country to collect these bras. Women these groups work with are women overseas that were sold as sex slaves and been rescued. Bras provide an opportunity for these women to work with other women. Most of the women that this group works with were sold into prostitution as children, only 8-10 years old. Because their lives were stolen from them, they missed out going to school and getting an education.
Selling bras allows them to work as much or as little as their school schedule permits. Once a program has been started with an aftercare provider, it is designed to sustain itself. The women in the program receive their starting inventory as a donation, and then able to buy additional inventory from Free the Girls from below wholesale value to help them maintain their competitive edge in the marketplace.
They accept both new and gently used bras of all sizes and styles, including sports bras, nursing bras, and camisoles. The GFWC Menifee/Sun City Women's Club along with other GFWC Clubs will be collecting these and then shipping them to the Free The Girls organization. Their website is http://freethegirls.org This site will give you great information on what this is all about. If you would like to help our club by making a donation contact Gayle Lacy, President 951-301-9115, email; This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , she can arrange to have someone pick them up or give you a drop off point in Menifee.
Project 3... TUIBFRIM We are collecting cancelled stamps, working on a project called TUBFRIM, What is it? A charity in Norway originally created to eradicate tuberculosis in Norwegian children by collecting and selling used frimerker to stamp collectors. Frimerker is the Norwegian word for stamps. Blend parts of the words tuberculosis and frimerker, and you get "Tubfrim". This organization now works to improve the quality of life for children and youth with handicaps as well. Please never throw away canceled stamps and postcards, stamps and postcards from any country can be used. Not the forever stamps but the unique type stamps that the post office sells that you put on your mail or on mail you receive.
Just cut or team the stamps off the envelope or post cards leaving a slight margin (approx 1/2 Inc) to keep the peroration intact. They also are happy to receive stamp collections, old envelopes, covers and postcards. If envelopes, postcards, etc., are more than 50 years old, then please do not cut off the stamp, but give us the whole envelope/postcard.
